Overview of the Teen REACH Statewide Evaluation

The Teen REACH evaluation will consist of a youth survey and a parent survey. A sample of youth participants will be randomly selected from all programs across the state using the e-Cornerstone system. The parents of the selected youth participants will also be asked to complete a survey. Each program will receive youth and parent surveys for the participants who are selected to take part in the evaluation. The youth survey and the parent survey will be administered at one time point in Spring 2005.

In an effort to obtain a broad sample of youth participants across the state and at the same time simplify data collection at the local level, several procedures have changed. Some of the important changes for this year are:

  • A statewide sample of youth participants has been randomly selected by DHS to take part in the evaluation.
  • Passive parental consent rather than active consent will be required for a youth to complete a survey. This means that the parent is asked to sign the consent form if they DO NOT want their child to complete a survey.
  • The youth survey will only be administered at one time point instead of two times during the FY05 program year.
  • The e-Cornerstone ID # will be used on surveys rather than a number assigned by the provider.
  • There will be no formal face to face data collection training—all the information regarding evaluation procedures will be disseminated through this web page.

We urge you to download and read the Teen REACH Data Collection Procedures Manual you will find on this web page. The manual contains detailed information on informed consent and survey administration procedures.
